You may have heard the good news that Victory Park Health Group has welcomed a dietitian; Isabel Keeton to join the amazing team. If you’ve always wondered what a dietitian is or what to expect then keep reading.

What is a dietitian?

An Accredited Practising Dietitian is a University qualified nutrition expert. They spend 4-5 years studying food and nutrition and how it can affect a variety of health conditions such as diabetes or coeliac disease.

What is the difference between a nutritionist and a dietitian?

Dietitians can give medical nutrition advice for diseases (eg. heart disease, eating disorders, IBS) whereas nutritionist can only give nutrition guidance for general health

Why might I need to see a dietitian?

Isabel is experienced in a range of conditions such as eating disorders, irritable bowel syndrome using the low FODMAP diet, coeliac disease, nutrition for the elderly, diabetes and cholesterol concerns. If you need support in any of these areas Isabel would be the perfect person to help!

Isabel also uses what’s called a non-diet approach which involves teaching people how to develop a healthy relationship with food without restrictive diets. If you feel like you’ve battled with food for years or if you’ve dieted in the past and nothing seems to have worked then you should book an appointment with Isabel today.

What should I expect from a dietitian consultation?

For your first appointment our dietitian, Isabel, will spend one hour with you. What that hour is spent on will depend on the client, current symptoms, and what you would like to achieve from seeing a dietitian. It will usually start with some general questions to get to know you, followed by more detailed questions around nutrition such as what an average day of eating looks like for you and what challenges you have around eating. Isabel always uses a judgement free and compassionate approach in her appointments to help you feel comfortable and heard.

Follow up appointments are either 30mins or 1 hour. These appointments are important to make sure you are on the right path or make any adjustments as required. Isabel will discuss with you the number and frequency of these sessions.

If you have any questions feel free to call us on 03 8506 9995 or email Isabel at info@vicparkhealth.com.au
