A “hands on” approach of the spinal and peripheral joint play as well as the contractile state of specific muscles and their associated local and satellite trigger points.
Steve, our Senior Myotherapist, at Mckinnon Sports and Spinal has over 10 years of clinical experience, completing his Advanced Diploma in Remedial Massage (Myotherapy). Steve has a thorough and detailed understanding of the muscular and the effects it can have on reducing movement and causing pain.
Steve takes a holistic approach, he achieves more than just providing exceptional symptom relief; he identifies root causative factors and then effectively communicates this to you to ensure you understand your contribution to better long-term health.
Among his array of hands on soft-tissue techniques, Steve finds the use of dry needling, very beneficial for his patients whether the pain is acute or a chronic. Dry needling involves the use of fine acupuncture needles being inserted into areas of contracted muscle fibres to not only reduce local pain in the area but to improve functional movement.
This dry needling method allows these tight bands of muscle to release, subsequently reducing the stress of the associated muscle and nerve pathways, getting you feeling better, faster. Steve has been active most of his life, playing soccer for 20 years, but has also been on the other side of the fence, working with sporting teams at a competitive level. Outside the clinic Steve enjoys being active whether its walking his 2 dogs (Elliot and Leo) or a weights and Pilates session using the inhouse gym. Steve also lives locally so often shares a coffee with his patients.
